My name is John, and I, quite literally, grew up in the funeral home. My dad, Howard, was a funeral director through and through, and I experienced first hand what it meant to be a funeral director in a small town. I saw the the pride he took in serving families well and the compassion he offered to generations of folks here in Nocona.
I enrolled in mortuary school a couple years after high school, and I came back to work with Daddy and W.L. Scott in the early 1980’s, both at the funeral home and at Scott-Morris Hardware store. I continued to manage the store after my dad passed away, until we closed the store in 2018. All along the way, I have also worked as a funeral director, first with W.L. and my dad, then later with my wife Kim. We have always sought to provide caring, compassionate, professional service to our community.
Kim and I retired a few years ago to travel. Now we mostly stay closer to home. You may see us around town, and we do still fill in at the funeral home as needed. I am proud to carry on my dad’s legacy of professional service, and now I am proud to pass that legacy on to my son John and his wife Heather.
Kim and I remain active in our church and in the community of Nocona, which has been my home nearly all my life.
My name is Kimberly Morris. I was born in Lynnwood, California, and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. She married John W. Morris, and together we raised our sons. Now we are blessed to have a host of grandchildren and a few years ago became great-grandparents!
Shortly after I married John, I began to work in the funeral home with John and his father, Howard. I enrolled at the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, and I graduated in 1996. I was blessed to serve our community full-time as a funeral director from that time through the rest of my career. When John and I partnered with Howard in the funeral home many years ago, and we became the sole owners after Howard passed away in 2014. I have enjoyed serving our community with dignity and compassion for nearly 30 years now! Along the way, I have made many friends in our community and served with several of them including having served on the Nocona Chamber of Commerce and Keep Nocona Beautiful.
A few years after John, Jr. and Heather graduated from mortuary school, my husband and I (mostly) retired and have loved travelling.
John and I are members of the Church of Christ in Nocona, where we have enjoyed a loving church family for over 35 years.
While we are no longer working full-time day-to-day in the funeral home, we do still fill in from time to time as needed, and you may also spot us around town. We are thankful to be members of this community that has meant so much to our family.
My name is John. I am proud to be a third generation funeral director. After World War II, Grandad (Howard) went to mortuary school, and he became a funeral director in the late 1940’s. Since then, our serving families in their time of need has always been part of my family. Both of my parents are funeral directors, and my grandparents lived in the funeral home, so I have been around the funeral industry all my life.
After graduating from Nocona High School, I attended Abilene Christian University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Christian Ministry. After several years of full-time youth ministry, I decided to become a funeral director. I enrolled at the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service, graduated in May 2015, and came home to serve families in Nocona and the surrounding area.
I deeply enjoyed my time in full-time ministry, but I am honored to serve in a different ministry now, serving families in their time of deepest need and grief.
When I am not working, I enjoy reading and spending time with my family. I am blessed to be able to partner with my wife Heather in life and in work, and we enjoy serving our community together.
I am thankful that I can be part of my family’s rich legacy of funeral service, and I hope to serve the people of Nocona and beyond for many years to come.
My name is Heather Morris, and since 2014 I have dedicated my life to serving families during their most vulnerable moments as a funeral director. Growing up, I never envisioned myself in the funeral industry. My initial aspirations were quite different, but life has a way of leading us down paths we might not expect. After marrying into the funeral home business, I quickly found my passion for helping others through grief. It wasn’t just about providing services; it was about being a comforting presence for families navigating their loss.
In pursuit of becoming a knowledgeable and compassionate funeral director, I enrolled at the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service. Graduating in November 2014 marked a significant milestone in my life. The rigorous training I received, combined with my personal experiences, equipped me with the skills needed to support families in the most meaningful ways.
Working alongside my husband in the funeral home has been a unique journey. Together, we share not just a profession but a mission: to serve our community with integrity and grace. Our partnership strengthens the bonds of our family while allowing us to create a nurturing environment for grieving families.
As I reflect on my journey, I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to touch lives in meaningful ways. Every family I serve teaches me something new about love, loss, and the strength of the human spirit. My commitment to the Nocona community remains unwavering, and I will continue to work diligently to ensure that no one walks through their grief alone.
In this role, I’ve found not only my career but my purpose—serving others in their most challenging times is not just my job; it’s my passion.
