Mark James Gideon, Sr. of Nocona passed away Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 at the age of 56. Mark was born April 30th, 1961 to Russell Dale and Carole Low Gideon in San Francisco. As a young man, Mark served in the United States Air Force. Mark also attended Midwestern State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. Mark met Myra (Bullard) and the two married May 6, 2001 in Wichita Falls.
Mark never met a stranger. He was a true friend and a man who loved people. He played Santa Claus for kids, with Myra joining him as Mrs. Claus. He was an active member of Christ Community Church in Nocona, which led him to volunteering at A Hand Up. There he gained the nickname "Egg man," due to his inspecting and cleaning eggs before they were distributed.
In his free-time, Mark loved gardening as well as creating art in stained glass, for which he was well-known. Mark also had a keen interest in Scottish history, and his family were of the McLaren clan. Mark enjoyed attending the Renaissance Fair, dressing the part in his McLaren kilt. Mark was known to wear his kilt in more "everyday" places as well, including to church and even to the Dairy Queen.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Myra; daughter Stephanie Buckmaster and husband David of Garland; son Mark James Gideon, Jr. and wife Lyla of Iowa Park; grandchildren Johnathan Robison, Christian Robison, Keira Buckmaster, Alexander Gideon, Lyssa Gideon, Matt Fralick, and Sydney Buckmaster
Mark will be remembered as a man full of joy, life, and love. Mark's funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 at Christ Community Church in Nocona with Don and Belinda Hendrix officiating under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be immediately before the funeral at 1:00 at the church. Memorial donations may be made to A Hand Up of Nocona or to the "Christmas All Year Fund" at Christ Community Church.
