Marion Ruth Barron

Marion Ruth Barron, formerly of Nocona, passed away February 14th, 2016 in Corsicana, Texas. She was 92. Ruth was born February 18th, 1923 in Gainesville, TX to Joseph and Haney Griffin. Ruth was raised in Gainesville and graduated from Gainesville High School. Ruth met Morris Barron during World War II, and they married in Santa Rosa, CA on August 17, 1942. They lived in California and Florida until he was deployed overseas. While Morris was overseas, Ruth moved to Denton, TX to be with family. After Morris received a medical discharge from the Army, they remained in Denton until Morris received his Bachelor's Degree from North Texas State College. They moved to Nocona in September of 1950. Morris had accepted a teaching position in the high school. Morris passed away in 1975. Ruth remained in Nocona until 2006 and then moved to Corsicana to be closer to family. Ruth was a housewife and mother. In the late 1960's she went to work for Nocona Locker Plant as the office manager until it closed. She has been a member of First Baptist Church of Nocona for more than 60 years. Ruth taught Sunday School and kept the nursery, and she also sang in the choir for many years. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Haney Griffin; her husband Morris; sisters Rachel Barrett and Zilda Chamberlain; brothers JC Johnson, Homer Griffin, and Jack Griffin; and son-in-law Herchel Stephens. Ruth is survived by her daughter Jodie Stephens of Corsicana; son Phil Barron and wife Paula of Kerrville; grandchildren Kevin Stephens, Scott Stephens and wife Chelena, Kerri Oliphant and husband Terry, Amanda Ruth Morrison and husband Ron, all of Corsicana; Phil Barron, Jr. of Ft Worth and Patrick Barron of Cedar Hill, TX; great-grandchildren Gracie and Clinton Morrison and Addison Oliphant; step great-grandchildren Chase and Chelsea Thomas; Step great-great-grandson Ethen Kuykendall, all of Corsicana; her brother Dr. Joe Griffin and wife JoAnn of Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Nocona or a charity of your choice.
