On August 17, 2024, Malinda Joyce Pollard, peacefully at her home, and in her birthday suit, joined her late husband Gene Pollard. Malinda was known far and wide for her spit-fire personality, genuine friendliness, and her strong work ethic.
Malinda was born January 28, 1958, which her favorite son finally remembered this year. She was born to Billy Royce and Malinda "Linda" Mae Gilmore in Henrietta, Texas. Once she had enough of high school she decided to travel. At one point she even joined the traveling carnival, which made her parents glad it wasn't a circus. June of 1977 brought her the new adventure of motherhood, adding her daughter Memorie Dawn, to the list of people she would love. In the early 1980's, she met a young stud at her brother's house, who turned out to be the love of her life. In 1984 she became a mother again with the birth of Carrie Sue. Malinda and Gene completed their family in 1987 with the birth of Robert Alan.
Malinda would practice her love of photography with the family when camping on trips or even at random times. Malinda preoccupied her time making new friends at different jobs she had throughout the years. Once she became a ganny, her grandchildren became her main focus in her journal. She said she wanted to spend as much time with them before their friends became more important.
She is survived by her mother, Linda Phelps, her daughters Memorie Dawn Word and Carrie Sue Pollard (Penton), son Robert Alan Pollard; grandchildren, Ben, Alex, Garnett, Gavin, Elise; her siblings Butch, Carrie, Terry, and Randall; sister-in-law, Brenda. Malinda was a proud Aunt to many nieces and nephews like William and Jennifer. Malinda thought her love for animals was limited to wildlife until she became a dog mom to Tara. Malinda leaves behind many friends who were like family.
Malinda is preceded in death by her husband, Garnett Eugene Pollard, her father, Billy Royce Gilmore, her stepfather Perry Phelps, parents-in-law Beula and Lee Pollard and brother-in-law Jerry Newland.
Malinda's children find comfort knowing she's at peace with our Dad while we watch the old home videos she made so many years ago. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rathgeber hospitality House of Wichita Falls.
Malinda's celebration of life will be Sunday, September 1st 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at Lake Nocona at Boone Park, because we all know Malinda was a night owl. This is a family-led ceremony, telling stories and memories of Malinda are encouraged at her celebration.
