Jo Dorland Obit
Jo Hawthorne Dorland was my Mimi and this is the celebration of her life. She lived Faithfully, Lovingly, and Fulfilled. The Lord brought her into this world on July 6th, 1956 to Billy Joe and Shirley Hawthorne. Then the Lord brought her home on August 14th, 2024. To say this life of hers has been filled with adventures is an understatement,
She lived fulfillingly all because of the love shown through her husband and the love of her life Tommy Dorland. It was because of them and the Lord blessing them with their beloved daughter, Penny, who in return blessed them with 5 grandchildren to love! Her heart never felt more full than being a Mimi to her Five T's: Tomi, Tristan, Tanner, Tobie, and Tinley. Then the oldest 3 of her grandchildren blessed them with 5 great-grandchildren to adore even more: Blakely, Alejandro, Waylon, Dru, and Melody (due in December). Every single one of these beautiful children are their greatest treasures! Jo is also survived by her sisters Robbie Mitchell and Susie Dubberley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jo was also preceded in death by an infant sister Phyllis Marie,
To think that Tommy and Jo traveled to Jerusalem where our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ walked and was crucified for our sins. And now she gets to see Him face to face, what a glorious day it is! For anyone who knows Jo will understand that she stands strongly in her faith. We serve an Amazing God who has shown us the meaning of unconditional love. It is through that love that our life is fulfilled.
During this life, Jo attended Nocona High School, graduating in the class of 1974. She attended Cooke County Community College and studied accounting, then owned a tax preparation company for over 25 years. Often, you would find her riding her lawn mower, cleaning up the tall grass that grew on the family land. Like her father, she would not rest until the work was done. And it was guaranteed her tumbler would be filled with her favorite beverage cherry coke. Despite working outside, she always had her nails done because she liked to paint them herself.
She was also creative in making homemade presents for Christmas, custom painted with love. From stepping stones to cross-stitched blankets and portraits, she made it all with her own two hands. She believed anything homemade or made from the heart was always better than store bought.
She would go out of her way to capture all of our special moments in time, she spent hours working on perfecting her picture taking and then editing all of them before posting them proudly on her page.
When the elderly members of the church couldn't get out to make the sermons, Tommy and Jo started to film the sermons to take to them. She wanted them to know that they were never forgotten by the church or God.
Our Mimi, Jodi, momma, sister and friend will be greatly missed, but we have great comfort knowing how strong her faith is and that she has left a very strong and beautiful impression that will long surpass our time on this earth.
Any friends or family who wish to make a gift in her honor please give to the International Mission Board, Lottie Moon or any mission spreading the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
