James Wilbur Putnam

James W. Putnam was born on September 2, 1930 to William and Zula Putnam. He died on March 17, 2016 surrounded by his family. Jim was a true self-made businessman, a storyteller and a life-long hard worker. His character was outspoken and resilient. He tried his hand at many trades throughout his life and found great success in the oil and gas industry. Jim called Nocona, TX home for many years, where he raised his two daughters, Rebecca and Cathy. Here, he became a longstanding member of Jean�s Downtown Men�s Bible Class. He was in the army in Korea and is a Life Member of the VFW. On January 20, 1976, he married Cleo Bullard. They spent many years traveling and researching the Putnam ancestry together � one of Jim�s true passions. They later relocated to Arlington, TX, where Jim liked to spend time creating a sanctuary of roses in his backyard. Jim touched the lives of many, especially as a loving Papa to six granddaughters and 11 great grandchildren. He loved a good game of cards and dominos and would, most certainly, win no matter the opponent. He is survived by his wife, Cleo; daughter Cathy Olds; granddaughter Mitzi Scott, granddaughter Amanda Middleton; granddaughter Codie Meehan; granddaughter Kylie Linderman; granddaughter Katie Kosch; and granddaughter Cassandra Kelley. Along with his 11 great grandchildren (Bryson, Benjamin, Tristan, Baylee, Hailey, Shawn, Brayden, Alexander, Deacon, Ryker, and Mason). In addition, he is survived by his sister Virginia Kitchens, sister Julia Roberts, brother Sam (Kelly) Alexander, and sister-in-law Betty (Robert) Putnam. He is preceded in death by his father William Putnam, mother Zula Alexander, sister Edith Kunkel, brother Robert Putnam, brother Roger Putnam and daughter Rebecca Barnett. Visitation will be a Scott Morris Funeral Home at 212 E Oak St., Nocona, TX on Monday, March 21, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, 511 Cooke St., Nocona, TX, on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Burial Services will be held at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 N. Davis Dr., Arlington, TX at 3:00 p.m.
