James Tasker of Nocona passed from this life Thursday, October 13th, 2022 at the age 63. James was born November 14th, 1958 in Wichita Falls to Harold "Buster" and Wanda Tasker. James attended school in Bowie, and in high school he was an all-state linebacker. James' sophomore year, they played against Hooks High School whose running back was future Heisman winner and Detroit Lions player, Billy Sims. Bowie made a goal line stand, with James tackling Sims four times in a row on the 1 yard line. James graduated from Bowie High School in 1977. James earned a football scholarship at East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Commerce), but a knee injury ended his playing days. While at East Texas State, he joined the Sigma Chi fraternity. James later transferred to North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas) where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Arts.
James had a technical mind and excellent attention to detail which helped make him such a talented maintenance man. He worked for many years as Director of Maintenance, most recently for Grace Care Center.
James believed in honest hard work, but he certainly was not "all work and no play." Everywhere he went, whether at work, at home, or in the community, James was quick with a joke and loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed saying, "Well, I'm just glad I tickled your funny bone!" He was always goofy, never serious. The cornier the joke, the better! James never met a stranger. He was genuinely interested in how you were doing, even if he just met you.
James was a dedicated family man. James met the love of his life Sherri Price, and the two shared 15 wonderful years together. James was always proud of his kids, who brought him such joy. James was the picture of a supporting father, always helping Jamie and her teammates for cheer, dance, softball, and any other activities she participated in. Whether he was building sets, making signs, or taxiing everyone around, he was always glad to support. He taught his kids the value of keeping your word, working through tough times, and finishing what you start. He enjoyed special ways of spending time with each of his kids, bonding one on one. When James had grand kids, he found a whole new kind of joy!
James was preceded in death by his parents, Buster and Wanda. He is survived by his wife Sherri; daughter Jamie Mills (and husband Ryan) of Victoria, TX; son Danny Brown (and wife Leslie) of Burkburnett; daughter Sherese Price of Nocona; sister Debbie Major (and husband Chan); brother Rusty Tasker (and wife Marilyn); brother Billy Tasker; grand children Kinley Mills, Cohen Mills, Kaleb Brown, Zander Brown, and Alexander Brown; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews who were very dear to him.
James' family will receive visitors Sunday, October 16, 6:00PM - 7:00PM at Scott-Morris Funeral Home in Nocona.
