Ima Jewel Whiteacre

September 19, 1936 — January 21, 2022

Ima Jewel Whiteacre rejoined her beloved husband Robert on January 21, 2022 in Wichita Falls, Texas at the age of 85. Ima was born in Foss, Oklahoma to Jessie Carl James and Opal Dee Dyer on September 19, 1936. The family moved to Sherman, Texas where she met the love of her life, Bob Whiteacre, who had recently come home from the Korean War. They married on December 7, 1954. They were married for 60 years until Bob passed away on July 3, 2015.
In their early marriage, Bob and Ima lived in Wichita Falls where Bob served on the Wichita Falls Police Department. Ima worked for Southwestern Bell until she retired in 1989 and then she and Bob moved to Alaska where Bob worked security on the oil pipeline. They moved back to Texas in the early 90's to be closer to their grandchildren. They made their home in Sherman where she worked as a switchboard operator at Wilson N. Jones Hospital until the early 2000's. While in Sherman she attended the Howe Church of Christ. Bob and Ima moved from Sherman to Wichita Falls Texas in 2013.
A devoted wife, Ima continued to look after Bob in his declining years. Her greatest pride and joy in life were her husband, kids, and grandkids. Ima had a special place in her heart for animals, and always had a dog, cat, or both.
Ima was always a faithful Christian and kept her faith even through all the trials that she went through. Ima was an opinionated woman who did not mind telling you what she thought about any given situation, whether you wanted to know or not!
Ima was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, an infant son Timothy Whiteacre, a daughter Robin Ann Morris and a son Alex Whiteacre, as well as a grandson Alvin Whiteacre, her sister Cleo Estes and husband JC, brother Carl James and wife Ruby, sister Christine Carter and husband Ewell, and sister Jessie May Davis and husband Wardell.
Ima is survived by her brother Billy Wayne James and wife Kathy, her grandson John Morris, Jr and wife Heather, granddaughter Ashley Roxanne Whiteacre Henderson, great-grandchildren Ty Graham, Victoria DeStratis and J. D. DeStratis, Kasche James Russell, Jesse Allen-Wayne Henderson, Alexis Aroura Russell and numerous nieces and nephews, and friends.
