Herbert Clyde Flynn

January 14, 1932 — June 20, 2018

On June 20th, 2018, Herbert C. Flynn, 86 years young, of Nocona, Texas passed away after a lengthy illness. He was a true Christian, much loved by his family and friends, who lived a rich, full life full of adventure and contentment.
Mr. Flynn, known as "Boss" to those closest to him, was a veteran of the United States Navy who gave 5-1/2 years in service of his country. He served in North Africa, Europe, England, and Italy, with his final year in Special Services at Corpus Christi, Texas prior to his honorable discharge. He was also proud to be a 32nd Degree Mason.
"Boss" was a police officer in the city of Canton, Illinois, and an Honorary Deputy Sheriff for Fulton County, Illinois, serving under Sheriff James Elam and Virgil Ball. After his time in law enforcement, Mr. Flynn went to work for the International Harvester Co. in Canton, Illinois, where he became a Foreman and then Night Superintendent. He was temporary trouble-shooter for mechanical breakdowns in Plant Maintenance until the final closing of the plant in Canton.
Mr. Flynn then relocated to Dallas, TX where he was a partner in an asbestos abatement company and worked for General Dynamics for 2 years until he bought out his partner. Af ter 4 more years he moved to Nocona, Texas and stayed in the area until he retired with many, many friends from his past who came to Texas to visit him, along with his church friends, who all shared in his love of a good story, fellowship, and his passion for games of chance and skill, including poker, bowling, and a cutthroat round or two of Texas Joker! He taught many of his children and grandchildren the Joker game and he will be remembered by many for that skill alone.
Herb Flynn is survived by his 3 adult children, ten grandchildren, and at least nineteen great-grandchildren, at last count! He will be missed by all who knew and loved him for his many accomplishments and great spirit. His "family" includes his much-loved caregivers, Sharlet Haas and Betty Stevens; he would not have lived his final years so fully and with such dignity without these loving ladies.

Memorial service will be on July 14th at Bonita Baptist church at 10AM
