Darrell Dean Mccoy

Darrell Dean McCoy, 81 of Ringgold, passed from this life October 31st, 2021 in Burkburnett. Darrell was born November 5, 1939 in Wasco, CA to LG "Shorty" and Opal McCoy. As a boy growing up, Darrell had bright blonde hair, earning him the childhood nickname "Cotton."
Darrell met Shirley (Markham), and they married March 19, 1960. They enjoyed 61 years of loving faithful marriage.
Darrell was a hard worker. He was a gifted Diesel mechanic all his life. He worked as a "Dam Hand" helping to build the dam on Lake Nocona. He served as a member of the Ringgold Fire Department. In addition to being a firefighter, he also kept the trucks up and running. One of his jobs with the fire department was directing traffic; he didn't like how the other guys directed traffic, so he did it himself! Darrell and Shirley also managed a number of marinas over the years, including Bass Hollow on Possum Kingdom Lake. Darrell loved their time managing marinas. Darrell also worked for Zack Burkett trucking, both as a mechanic and as a truck driver. He worked long and hard hauling watermelons from Terral, OK to the grocery stores in the Metroplex. When Darrell wasn't working, he enjoyed tinkering on cars.
Darrell's great love, though, was his family. He was a faithful, devoted husband and father. He loved teaching his kids and raising them to be healthy adults. As he got a bit older, he found special joy in being "Pa" to his grandchildren, several of whom also lived with Darrell and Shirley over the years. In his twilight years, Darrell was also blessed with several great-grandchildren, whom he loved very much.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, LG and Opal, and one brother Glen McCoy. Darrell is survived by Shirley McCoy, his loving wife of 61 years; as well as his children Cheryl McCoy, Kimberly McKay, Gaylene Allen, and Darrell Wayne McCoy; grandchildren: Adrienne, John, Carey Joe, Jeanna, Laura, Mendi, Cory, Leslie, Haleigh, Russell, and Darrell, Jr.; great-grandchildren Jaxson, Jake, Jesse, Hadley, Katy, Marti, Jackie, Riley, Leah, Jackson, Bentley, Owen, Toler, Lela, Lincoln, Gavin, Macie.
Darrell had a great sense of humor, and he never met a stranger. He will be deeply missed.
Darrell's funeral is set for Saturday, November 6th at 2:00 PM at Scott-Morris Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors Saturday from 1:00 until the funeral.
