Services for Billie Ray Murphey of Nocona, TX will be Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 2:00 at Molsbee Chapel in Nocona. Burial will be in the Nocona Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 6:00-7:00 at Scott-Morris Funeral Home Nocona, Texas. Billie Ray Murphey was born July 8, 1930 in Nocona, Texas to William Stokley Murphey and Anna Lee Jennings Murphey. He passed away February 3, 2017. He was 86 years and 210 days old. Billie married Juanita Faye Howerton. They had four children: Raymond Lee, Vicki Lynn, Alan Wayne and Christie Ruth. In 1963 he married Helen Louise Womack. Helen had three young children; Gregory Gene, Karen Galita, and Kathy Louise. Their father had suddenly died in a work incident. On February 21, 1968 the family was blessed with the birth of Kelley Dean. Billie was born in Nocona and lived in Odessa, West Columbia and back to Nocona to finish out his life in a home that he and Helen built on the site of his birthplace. With a seventh grade education he excelled in any job that he was given. Jobs included well service, roofing, welding and pipe fitting. He enjoyed cooking outside, shrimping, fishing, camping, deer hunting, farming and raising cattle. He was so happy when he could set atop his John Deer Tractor. Dressed in his long sleeve shirt, overalls, boots and western hat is how he will always be remembered. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Helen. Children and their spouses: Ray Murphey of Nocona, TX, Greg and Pam Womack of West Columbia, TX, Vicki and Gary Jones of Gainesville, TX, Karen and Donnie Hutchings of Nocona, TX, Alan and Linda Murphey of Post Oak, TX, Christie and Jim McGuffin of Gainesville, TX, Kathy and Randy Hardin of Gainesville, TX. Eighteen grandchildren and thirty nine great grandchildren. And his dear friend and Helen’s exwife-in-law Nita Murphey. Family that have gone on before him are: his parents, sister Helen Faye Sawyer and her spouse Archie, daughter Kelley Dean Murphey, grandsons Chad William Murphey and Patrick Brian Jones, grand-son-in-law Brandon Dale Driggers, great grandson Dakota Ray Huckaby and son-in-law Ricky Glenn Huckaby.
